Key Points for Keyword Management

  1. Purpose of Keyword Management

    • Identify Issues: The keyword management feature helps identify keywords that are siphoning your budget without contributing to conversions.

    • Optimize Budget: Focus on keywords that help you reach your objectives and eliminate those that do not.

  2. Total Spend Analysis

    • Active Keywords: View the total spend on all active keywords in your account.

    • Justified vs. Unjustified Spend: The feature shows the percentage of spend that led to conversions (justified) versus spend that did not (unjustified).

      • Example: $39,000 spent with only 15% justified indicates a need for optimization.

  3. Keyword Performance Metrics

    • Impressions: See which keywords are generating impressions. Keywords without impressions are in a waiting mode to prove their worth.

    • Clicks and Conversions: Track the percentage of keywords that have clicks and conversions.

    • Profitability: Identify the percentage of profitable keywords.

  4. Managing Underperforming Keywords

    • Inactive Keywords: Identify keywords that do not have impressions and are flagged after a certain period.

    • Promote or Fire: Treat keywords like employees – promote the ones that perform well and remove the ones that do not.

Sections in Keyword Management

  1. New Keywords

    • Purpose: Identify and promote new keywords that have the potential to perform well.

  2. Duplicates

    • Purpose: Find and manage duplicate keywords to avoid conflicts and inefficiencies.

  3. Negatives

    • Purpose: Add negative keywords to filter out irrelevant traffic and improve overall campaign performance.

  4. Better Bids

    • Purpose: Optimize bids for each keyword to maximize performance based on the estimated maximum cost per acquisition (CPA).

  5. No Impressions

    • Purpose: Monitor keywords that are not generating impressions and decide whether to keep them or remove them.

Practical Steps for Keyword Management

  1. Analyze Spend and Performance

    • Review the total spend on active keywords and identify unjustified spend.

  3. Remove Inefficient Keywords

    • Regularly check the "No Impressions" section and remove keywords that fail to generate impressions over time.

  4. Manage Duplicates and Negatives
